Getaway- Dallas
HEY GUYS!
Lately, I was feeling like my life was on auto-pilot with no time for myself. One busy week blended into another and the weekends- flying by too fast. Before I knew it, Monday would arrive and my weekend didn’t really bring any meaning to my life. I needed to getaway to recharge my batteries. I needed a change of scenery. With limited time and funds, I happen to fall upon the answer to my problem. I found a simple, close to home retreat. Getaway, “helps stressed-out city dwellers rekindle an interest in life unplanned.”
The idea of Getaway was to build tiny houses, place them in nature, and then rent them by the night to stressed-out folks looking to escape and rejuvenate. Perfect! Just what I needed. So I hopped online and booked my weekend getaway 2 days beforehand. A bit spontaneous. The thing with Getaway is that they keep the locations secret to preserve the element of surprise/adventure. Once you book your cabin, they reveal the exact location. It does however, give you the option to enter your zip code to give you the approximate travel time it will take you to get to your location before finalizing your stay. The goal is to keep the locations close enough to the city to let guests escape.
The website to book my stay was simple and easy to follow. Get online to get offline. Getaway also has outposts located in: Boston, Cleveland + Pittsburg, Atlanta, Los Angeles, Portland, New York, and Washington D.C.
As far as pricing- a one bed cabin was about $150 but I took advantage of a promo code which took $35 off. They also have option to pay via Affirm which breaks down the cost into 4 easy payments.
MY EXPERIENCE
It took me about 1 1/2 hours to get to my cabin…which was fine by me! The whole point is to get away from the city “noise”. To get to my cabin, you had to drive down a dirt road in a very rural area. I passed by some houses and trailers along the small narrow road and then, BOOM…a thick wooded area where the getaway begins. I followed the map that was emailed to me…the GPS could only take me so far. It was beautiful! Finding my cabin was easy. I parked, entered the code on the keypad and opened the door to my weekend retreat. I was blown away. Take a look for yourself.
The 140-200 square foot cabin include everything you need and nothing you don't: a queen-sized bed, stove, fridge/cooler, sink, toilet, shower, and heat—while emphasizing the natural surroundings and embodying the Getaway ethic of “less is more.” The bed was very comfy and included storage underneath to store your bags, shoes, etc. It was very cold outside but inside, the heater worked wonderfully! The space also included some books, games, a phone for emergencies, and a radio/speaker you could connect your music to via Bluetooth. Moving onto the kitchenette area- Getaway provides all of the cook wear and utensils you’ll need, even olive oil. Each cabin is stocked with simple provisions for purchase such as: coffee, tea, pasta and sauce, s'mores, and popcorn (prices are included on the price list inside the cabin).
Bring your pup! Getaway is pup friendly. Just pay a small cleaning fee- $40
THAT EVENING
THE NEXT MORNING
Check-out wasn’t until 11am so I decided to wake up a little early and enjoy the sunrise, cook some pancakes, and just enjoy my remaining time there. You don’t have to take time off work, or quit your job and go on a 12-month around-the-world trip to bring more travel and adventure into your life. A simple weekend trip close to home can do wonders for you mentally and physically.
Well that’s it, folks! I wanted to keep this one short and sweet. If you have any questions, please feel free to comment below.
